2016 Conference

Empowering Native American Veterans to Improve Their Quality of Life

The mission of the Southwest Native American Veterans Association, Inc. is to provide the best possible conference for Native American veterans, families, and tribal leaders. Speakers from different agencies, branches of military and congressional leaders have been invited to provide you with information to start and continue the healing process of serving our country. In 2016, the Veterans Rising for Healing Conference will be held September 22-23 at the NM Army National Guard Armory located at 600 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM.

The theme this year is: “Using technology to navigate our Native Warriors through the VA System.”

Goals of the conference:

  • Increase and enhance access to VA benefits and services that include quality health care, housing, employment and education;
  • Improve coordination and delivery of care through the development of health information systems and trainings;
  • Increase cultural awareness and culturally competent care for VA beneficiaries;
  • Improve health promotion and disease prevention programs and services to American Indian, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiians; and
  • Review, comment and address VA policies not culturally appropriate to Native Americans, Alaska Natives and Native Hawaiians.
